Starting 2022 with or without resolutions?
Share
This isn't a #SuperbBlog with advice; you won't read what you should or shouldn't do to start the year with resolutions. Nor is this the place where you'll find that something that will make you feel better now that everyone is talking about new challenges. This post is a dialogue, a way to appreciate those moments we sometimes let pass us by... Is it necessary to set resolutions to feel better in the first month of the year?
Look, this isn't the first time we've made a list of New Year's resolutions that we'll never keep (and we already know that). That list always, or almost always, includes tips like "start going to the gym," "diet," "read more" (this one we should definitely stick to)... and blah blah blah. Amidst all this, we forget one of the most important things: being happy with ourselves.
This should be not just a goal, but a way of life. Because when you're happy with yourself, you feel good about who you are, what you do, how you spend your time, who you're with... when you're happy with all of this, the rest comes naturally. And you don't have to set a time or limit yourself; sometimes, enjoying the process, however long it takes, and learning from it, is the most important and most enriching thing, the thing that shapes us.
We've had a crazy year, a year in which planning anything was almost impossible because you didn't know what might happen tomorrow. A new restriction, a different variant, and so on... and countless other things. But have you stopped to think about how this inability to plan anything has taught us to live differently? We've had to live in the moment, to enjoy every minute of freedom and also to enjoy the everyday... And yes, many of you have had a hard time, or felt like we were managing the situation incorrectly. That's okay. That's why your New Year's resolution should be about yourself.
Connect with the present, with yourself, without high expectations, simply enjoying the journey, so you can then connect with others and everything else; achieve your goals with the calm you need, realize and assimilate everything you're capable of... be well, feel calm, be happy with the little things you have in your daily life. In short, be you and be happy with yourself.
This is the best New Year's resolution. And ever. And everything else... it doesn't matter if you don't get there, if you don't accomplish it, if you don't achieve it. Because you'll get there, you'll accomplish it, you'll achieve other things.
